Meet our third $1000-Mirco-initiative winner: Marion, Santiago, Chile
Friends of Bata started the $1000 micro-initiatives to give local leaders, grass roots organizations or dedicated individuals the opportunity to fund and realise their projects. Every week Friends of Bata selects a winner from the applications received that week. Our third winner is Marion Godoy, an artist from Santiago de Chile.
Marion is an artist, who is part of a collective of other female artists currently working on murals in a commune in Santiago. Those who have been to Santiago, know that it is famous for its murals! To see some of Marion's work, please click here.
This project aims to help combat the shortage of medical supplies during this health crisis, while generating extra economic income for groups of women with unstable sources of money by creating KUNKA or cowl scarves. Kunka is derived from the Aymara word for neck/ throat.
We are excited to support this innovative and creative project. Originally, copper was supposed to be used in these scarves, but due to procurement issues, antimicrobial silver ions were used instead. The scarves are now ready and interest in them has been amazing. Please check out their Instagram to find out more about the artists and the products, and of course to buy your very own Kunka (Chile only).
This projects supports the organization Vivir + Feliz. This organization supports children with cancer and their families to pay for treatments and therapies, and to improve their quality of life as much as possible. To find out more about this organization, please visit their website.
