The first half of 2022 is now over, and the partnership between Friends of Bata and Goodwall produced some incredible results. In the first quarter of this year, we had over a dozen winners across three challenges on important topics like sustainability and gender equality.
This time around, we had nearly 75 winners across seven challenges! From kindness to empowering minorities to reimagining education, we got hundreds of amazing and innovative ideas and entries from all
over the world. In this post, we thought we’d share some of the most powerful ideas that came in as challenge entries, as well as a few quick words from the various challenge winners.
Overall, the first half of 2022 has awarded 94 prize winners, received almost 1.4M impressions, and gotten more than 151K engagements. Countries with the highest participation levels so far have been Pakistan (13.4%), India (13.2%), Nigeria (11.4%), Bangladesh (5%), and the Philippines (3.7%); rounding out the top 10 countries are Nepal, the United States, Ghana, Somalia, and Kenya.
Because we more than quintupled the number of winners this quarter, we’re going to structure this post a bit differently than last time. For each challenge, you’ll get a brief description followed by one
featured winner. At the end, we’ll list out all the other winners with links to their entries, as well. (Some quotes below have been edited for clarity.)

Profile page and their winning entry.
Hi Zahraa, could you tell us a bit about yourself?
I'm Zahraa. I'm from South Africa, I'm 17, and currently in my final year at high school. I enjoy reading and writing. One day I hope to open up my own business.
Congratulations on winning the #CyberKindness Challenge! Could you give us a little background into your idea?
Nowadays on the internet, it’s full of hate. There are hateful comments and negative vibes everywhere. My idea, “Kindness is Contagious,” is to help make people feel better by using the hashtag “kindness virus.”
Do you have any ideas on what you'll do with your prize?
I’m currently in my final year of high school and applying to university, so I will use the money for application fees, textbooks, and other resources I might need for university.
Finally, how did you learn about Goodwall? And, what do you think about your Goodwall experience to date?
One day, I had an email, a promotion email that I usually ignore, but this one looked interesting. It was talking about sustainability. So I downloaded the app, signed up, and created my profile, and then I’ve been using it ever since. I’ve really enjoyed my experience with Goodwall so far. I’ve learned a lot, seen a lot of new things, and learned
about a lot of new cultures. It’s a really fun app.

Lileth Jesalva
Check out their Goodwall profile page and their winning entry.
Hi Lileth, could you tell us a bit about yourself?
Hello everyone, my name is Lileth Jesalva, andI’m 21 years old. I live in Mendez, Philippines, and I’m also a first-year student here at the local Cavite State University.
Congratulations on winning the #PitchChallenge! Could you give us a little background into your idea?
As a student, there are too many sources that can be found on the Internet. It consumes too much of the researchers' time.
Libtech is an app that compiles and provides a wide range of literary works and academic papers that can help researchers by giving them an app that helps them better manage their time. We all know that
finding credible sources is not easy, but with Libtech you do not need to worry about it.
As a student, it is hard for us to trust unknown sources. Not all the information on the Internet is from reliable authors and publishers. It does not guarantee that all the information is true. So we created an app that not only gives convenience and plenty of books but we assure that the app contains all necessary information based on facts and truth only and written by authorized personnel.
Do youhave any ideas about what you'll do with your prize?
I decided that I will divide it into three parts. 25% will go to my small business, and 25% will be for my personal use. The remaining part I’ll give to my mom so she can budget it toward our daily needs.
Finally, how did you learn about Goodwall? And, what do you think about your Goodwall experience to date?
My boyfriend introduced it to me, he said thatI can share my knowledge there, my thoughts and ideas. At first, I was hesitant
to join because I’m not the kind of person that has the confidence to face people, especially on social media. Now that I’ve won, it gives me a different feeling, that I gained more knowledge, I gained more confidence.

Uchizi Chavula
Blantyre, Malawi
Check out their Goodwall profile page and their winning entry.
Hi Uchizi, could you tell us a bit about yourself?
Hi everyone, my name is Uchizi Chavula, I amMalawian, and I’m 18 years old. I’m a very curious person, and I’m very open-minded. I really love trying new things, and music is one of my greatest passions. Music has so many elements to it and so much depth. It’s this curiosity that got me to Goodwall, because I was scrolling through Instagram one day and I saw something from Goodwall in my stories and in my feed, and I asked myself, what’s this all about?
Congratulations on winning the #ImagineEd Challenge! Could you give us a little background into your idea?
I think that we should be taught our basic human rights in school, because I believe that knowledge is power. If we know our basic human rights, we’ll better know how to protect ourselves. If we don’t know, we can get abused and not know that we’re getting abused. Knowing also will allow us to protect those around us. I also talked about learning diplomacy skills, because peace is the only way forward, and being taught diplomacy skills from a young age will help us promote peace. They will help us understand that global problems require global solutions.
Do you have any ideas on what you'll do with your prize?
I have not yet decided what to do with the money, so I’m going to put it in an insurance trust so that it grows slowly!

My idea is drawn from sustainability and looking at the fact that I love to impact society. The Dumba Festival is an annual festival celebrated by the chiefs and people of Wa of the Wala Paramountcy in the Upper West Region of Ghana. It is usually celebrated in the month of September or October. It serves as an occasion to unite the people of
the area, renew their commitment to Islam and commemorate the birthday of the Prophet Mohammed. People come together to promote peace and share ideas and solidarity in the region.

Check out their Goodwall profile page and their winning entry.
Hi Cristela, could you tell us a bit about yourself?
Hi, I’m Cristela Mejica, a finance college student, and it’s my last semester as a third year student. I’m currently busy with my thesis, especially since I am a group leader. When I’m not studying, I’m watching anime
Congratulationson winning the #INmedia Challenge! Could you give us a little background into your idea?
I chose to talk about One Piece in my entry because it’s my favorite anime, and I’ve watched it two times even though it has over 1,000 episodes. The series focuses on Monkey D. Luffy, a young man made of rubber who is inspired by his childhood idol, and he sets off on a
journey to find the mythical treasure One Piece and to eventually become King of the Pirates. He made friends along the way, and throughout his travels, he visited a lot of countries with a lot of cultures and races. It’s going to have a Netflix live adaptation soon, and the cast are from very diverse backgrounds.
Do you have any ideas on what you'll do with your prize?
I will use the prize money to repay some of my debts, and also obtain a government ID and other official documents since I need to get these organized. The rest of the money will become part of my savings, especially because I might need to use it once my internship period
starts.
Finally, how did you learn about Goodwall? And, what do you think about your Goodwall experience to date?
I found Goodwall on the Play Store app becauseI was looking for a social media app that would motivate me with my studies. This is a very good app because the community is inspiring and it challenges
people from time to time to think critically and be innovative with the
possibility of winning prizes. I don’t regret joining Goodwall, and I will
continue recommending it to people!
